Company History Of Van Caster Custom Builders, Inc. |
||
In 1978 Jeff was lucky enough to find and marry a young girl, Debbie, who shared his love of the outdoors, and agreed to move to Vilas County, to raise a family. Jeff had a degree in natural resources, but had worked in construction through the college days and afterward. Debbie had been an office manager. With a new baby at home Jeff worked as a carpenter for local contractors, and Debbie was a stay at home mom. Jeff ended up shortly as the lead man running the jobs for his boss. With the customer contact, and well as coordinating the sub-contractors and suppliers, it was a natural progression to become the contractor. In 1981 Van Caster Custom Builders, Inc became the beginning of what it is today. A lot has changed in that time, with the advance of technology, but some things have remained the same. Jeff still runs all of the projects, from design to occupancy, himself. We have developed a network of people who are the best at each phase of any given project. Our own crew consists of carpenters who are highly skilled craftsman in their own right. Our men are coordinated with various sub-contractors that come in on schedule to do their portion of each project. All of these participants combine to produce a finished product that is a modern marvel. The skill of the men and the equipment that is used today, can really produce a home that is a model of efficiency, as well as a thing of beauty. With Jeff responsible for the production of each project, things are always under a watchful eye. Each member of our crew is very proud and particular about their individual contribution to the final product. Our emphasis has always been and will continue to be, quality of product over quantity of product. We are a small company that will gladly take on large projects, but will limit the amount of what we promise to produce at any given time. Hopefully our future clients will understand our philosophy and be willing to wait for their slot in our schedule. We work out of our convenient office and shop in beautiful downtown Conover, WI. One of us is usually in the office, if we are not, on the current job site. In addition to being our company bookkeeper, a time consuming task on its own, Debbie is available to help our customers for any real estate needs. She is a licensed Realtor in both WI & MI. After 16 years in the real estate business, as well as 30 years in our construction endeavors, she is intimately familiar with the area and all it has to offer. Both of our children, Kristen and Joe, have each worked on the family business at one time or another. Our daughter currently owns her own restaurant in Eagle River, WI with her husband, and used to help out with bookwork. Our son developed into a first class carpenter and is currently working in the construction industry on Government projects. At 28 years old he finds traveling around the US quite interesting and the pay scale to be particularly attractive. He is learning a lot, but his master plan is to come back and work in the family business at some point. In his spare time he is building his own home here in Conover. This is the history of VCCB Inc. We have been in business for over 30 years. With no plans to relocate, we will be here and continue to be available for any construction needs for our community. Being Licensed in both WI & MI we will continue to serve the North Woods of Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. |
